Travelling is an opportunity for a new adventure.
The new town, the new city and a completely different country can take you places you have never been before - and meet people you would never had the chance to come across.
Travel is a great time to reconnect with yourself and with people who you care about. While some people may hate the idea of travelling by themselves, I find it to be a chance of intense period of self discovery.
When life gets busy, we can get lost into other peoples opinions of who and what we should be doing. And when we get the chance to remove ourselves from our comfort zones, we grow in every aspects of ourselves.
We are emotionally and mentally challenged, emotional fulfilled from these challenges and heck, if you are walking a lot or hiking - no doubt physically we challenge ourselves.
While challenges may sound the opposite of a holiday, the satisfaction of exploring unknown territory can feel exhilarating. Personally, travelling became another way for me to pause and appreciate the world around me.
The first holiday
For the first timers, this is the most exciting and scariest part of the holiday. Not knowing what is going to happen in an unfamiliar territory can be the biggest fear.
For most people, its a start of a beautiful relationship between the world and themselves. For a few people, it may be the last experience.
For a good chunk of my life, i was travelling every year for a month. Every new day on my travels promised new discoveries and new experiences that I have treasured for a very long time.
Every trip was an adventure and the next trip was already dreamt before i landed home. Every country represents another ‘world’ where everything you can change.
From what you see, hear, touch, taste and smell, your fives senses take on a whole new perspective. And another opportunity to discover foods, people and places not known.
Moving to a new city
For most travel enthusiasts, the experience of moving to another city is considered to be the height of all travel experiences.
The new adventure to create a new start to life with a new job in a unfamiliar place and meeting new people along the way can be scary. But the fear fades away as each new moment is created.
The personal experiences are priceless. The professional gains can be unimaginable. The opportunity can be endless.
The reasons for moving to another city is unique as the individual that makes the move.
Personally, one of the reasons i moved to another city was to change my lifestyle and absorb myself in a different culture.
For most of my life, i lived in one of the most isolated cities in the world and the luxury of travelling for an hour and arriving in another city completely fascinated me.
From a girl of a small town, the idea of living in the big city was the ultimate dream. And seeing my version of the ‘impossible’ come true gave me another level of faith and joy for the future ahead.
My travel experiences gave me the opportunity to find out what i truly wanted for myself and build a level of confidence in my own abilities.
The strength of determination, resilience and patience are great virtues to have in life. And when tough times come around the corner, there is an inner guide that will help you guide the way.
The inner ‘knowing’ that whatever life throws at you, you will be able to create your own experience.
If i had to give one suggestion, it would be - travel to a foreign city.
P.S. If you haven’t come across Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Eat Pray Love, it is a brilliant insight to the trials and revelations of travelling.
